1. Purpose and Scope

This Code of Conduct sets out the ethical principles, values, and standards of behavior expected of all individuals associated with Point of Difference, including board members, employees, volunteers, consultants, contractors, partners, and representatives.

The Code applies at all times and in all locations where Point of Difference operates, including interactions with beneficiaries, communities, donors, governments, partners, and the public.

2. Mission and Core Values

Point of Difference exists to serve communities and individuals in need with integrity, compassion, and accountability.
Our work is guided by the following values:

  • Respect for human dignity and human rights
  • Integrity, transparency, and honesty
  • Accountability to affected communities and donors
  • Inclusiveness, diversity, and equality
  • Do no harm and act in the best interest of beneficiaries

3. Commitment to Beneficiaries and Communities

All actions and decisions must prioritize the safety, dignity, and well-being of beneficiaries.

Individuals must:

  • Treat beneficiaries with respect, fairness, and cultural sensitivity
  • Avoid exploitation, abuse, or any misuse of power or authority
  • Obtain informed consent where required
  • Act in ways that strengthen, not undermine, local communities

Sexual exploitation, abuse, or harassment of beneficiaries is strictly prohibited.

4. Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH)

Point of Difference has zero tolerance for sexual exploitation, abuse, or harassment.

This includes:

  • Any sexual activity with children (under 18), regardless of local laws
  • Exchange of money, goods, services, or assistance for sexual acts
  • Any behavior that is humiliating, degrading, or exploitative

All suspected or actual incidents must be reported immediately.

5. Ethical Conduct and Integrity

All individuals must:

  • Conduct themselves honestly and ethically
  • Avoid conflicts of interest or disclose them promptly
  • Not accept or offer bribes, gifts, or favors intended to influence decisions
  • Use funds and resources solely for approved, mission-related purposes

Fraud, corruption, and misuse of funds will not be tolerated.

6. Accountability and Transparency

Point of Difference is accountable to:

  • Beneficiaries and affected communities
  • Donors and funding partners
  • Regulators and oversight bodies
  • The public

Accurate record-keeping, responsible financial management, and transparent reporting are mandatory.

7. Respectful and Inclusive Work Environment

Point of Difference is committed to a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.

Everyone must:

  • Treat colleagues, partners, and community members with dignity and respect
  • Not engage in discrimination, harassment, bullying, or intimidation
  • Promote equality regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or background

Discriminatory or abusive behavior is not acceptable under any circumstances.

8. Safeguarding and Child Protection

All individuals share responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

This includes:

  • Following safeguarding and child protection policies
  • Reporting concerns or suspicions promptly
  • Never placing individuals at risk through action or inaction

Failure to report safeguarding concerns is a serious violation.

9. Confidentiality and Data Protection

Individuals must protect confidential information, including:

  • Personal data of beneficiaries, staff, volunteers, and partners
  • Sensitive community information
  • Donor and organizational information

Information must be handled in accordance with data protection laws and organizational policies and shared only when necessary and authorized.

10. Use of Resources and Assets

Organizational assets, funds, and resources must be used responsibly, efficiently, and solely to support the mission of Point of Difference.
Personal use, waste, misuse, or unauthorized activities are prohibited.

11. Health, Safety, and Security

Point of Difference is committed to providing a safe working environment.

All individuals must:

  • Follow health, safety, and security procedures
  • Act responsibly to protect themselves and others
  • Report risks, incidents, or unsafe conditions promptly

12. Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing

Anyone who becomes aware of misconduct, abuse, or violations of this Code is encouraged and expected to report it in good faith.

Point of Difference:

  • Provides confidential reporting mechanisms
  • Takes all reports seriously
  • Protects whistleblowers from retaliation

False or malicious reports are also prohibited.

13. Consequences of Violations

Breaches of this Code may result in disciplinary actions, including:

  • Termination of employment or volunteer engagement
  • Termination of contracts or partnerships
  • Referral to law enforcement or regulatory authorities where required

14. Responsibility and Commitment

All individuals associated with Point of Difference are responsible for understanding and adhering to this Code of Conduct.

By upholding these standards, we protect the people we serve, strengthen trust with our partners and donors, and ensure that Point of Difference operates in line with its humanitarian mission.
